I wrote about 2,000 words of a YA novel yesterday and thought I was really on to something. "IT'S BRILLIANT!" I thought as I sipped my coffee and straightened my beret (okay, okay, part of that isn't true). Anyway, I woke up this morning and...it's crap. It's so funny how a night's sleep can change your perspective so much. But I've been revising it bit by bit this morning and it's already starting to look better. Hmm...
I already have another lj but this is going to be my writing related lj. If you're reading this, it's probably because you're a writer as well and I found you on some writing related site and wanted to add you. Why? Well, I really want to connect with other writers. The people in my life (the few who know I write) are so supportive but I have few "real life friends" who are writers as well. It would be nice to come out of the "writing closet" and meet some new people who understand the process.
Anyway, I wrote about half (approx. 20,000 words) of a MG novel this summer and then gave it up. Why? No plot. That seems to be my biggest problem in writing longer works. I think sometimes I get so swept away by my characters that I forget to make something happen to them. Or, if something does happen, it's inevitably cheesy as can be and I hate it.
Anyway X2, I have two picture books submitted right now. I feel that they both have a solid plot, strong characterization, etc. I'm really proud of them, which is a good feeling.
And then it came to an end.
